Super Bowl Partying

Had a great time at some Super Bowl events this week. Ol’ Tom Harrington came to town with his epic Bronco Bus to compete in the Tailgating National Championship. The dweebs from Houston won, but the Bronco Bus won our hearts. Then, thanks to a great hookup from my wife, we got to go to the Super Bowl Host Committee Party at Billy Bob’s. Mr. Pat Green played a great show along with a cameo from some guy named Randy Travis. Awesome.

Vegas, Baby!

The National Finals Rodeo 2010—The Super Bowl of Rodeo. The Fuchs’ and Millers invaded Vegas for a great weekend of the best rodeo I have ever seen. We scalped the cheapest tickets we could find for the first night but bought tickets in advance for the second night. Although there’s not a bad seat in the house, can you tell the difference in our pictures of the Grand Entry? We even got a surprise live performance from Mr. Lee Greenwood! It was a fantastic trip and big thanks to Mike & Cathye for making it happen.

California

Just got back from a great trip to California for work. Was lucky enough to get to visit the Alshuler family and have a great night out with them. Here is a picture of the sunset from their porch, a holiday picture of the pier, and the view from my hotel room the night before in Newport Beach. Not pictured: the two tickets I got on the way to the airport. Sorry, California, don’t think you’ll be collecting that fine any time soon… or ever.

Ben’s Chili Bowl

Had an incredible late night meal of a chili cheeseburger with a side of cheese fries at the world famous Ben’s Chili Bowl in DC. We had to go there for obvious reasons. Thanks to the Quillians for taking us (not to mention being great hosts for the weekend).

To paraphrase the sign behind the counter, it says “The only people who get free food here are Bill Cosby, the Obama Family, and no one else.” With those leanings, I guess it’s easier to point out when people don’t get things for free. They should open one of these things in Hyde Park!

The District

Here we are on Senator Scott Brown’s office balcony (formerly Ted Kennedy’s). He gets to enjoy it until they reshuffle offices based on seniority right about now. Very cool office and a heck of a view. Thanks the the Hoopes’ for the wonderful tour.

Also a very dark picture of the Millers in front of the Capitol and a picture of us in front of the original Senator subway car. All very cool stuff to see.

The Fair

From the looks of this picture, we were the only people at the TX State Fair last weekend. I assure you this was NOT the case. We managed to salvage a pretty good time. Got to try a fried Snickers on a stick and fried banana cream pie to name a few. Luckily it was very loud so you couldn’t hear me getting fatter. Thanks to Mom and Dad for a terrific visit.

Fuchs Family Fishing

Had big fun on the annual Fuchs Family Fishing Trip. Cathye was the big winner with an oversized—29 incher! Thanks to Mike & Cathye for another great trip.

Dinner For Grown-Ups

We had our first dinner party at the new house with the Optiz’s and the Bensons. Very grown-up and responsible. Got to use a record number of wedding gifts. Grilled pork chops on the new grill with asparagus stir fry and cauliflower mashed potatoes.

Gunny Turns Five!

Our yellow horse turned 5 this past week, and we celebrated with a dried out pig snout and a cow esophagus. Mmmmmm

La Parra

Big fun with Trey, Todd, Grady & Riley at the La Parra section of the Kenedy Ranch.  Caught over 60 trout and got to hang out with Ethel, the orphan.
